To commemorate the 1250th anniversary of the martyrdom of St Boniface (c.674-754) a two-day graduate conference will be held at the King's Manor, York, from 10th-11th September 2004. We hope to provide an occasion for a stimulating re-assessment of Boniface's achievements and contexts, with particular attention to how his distinctive and wide-ranging ecclesiastical career bridged eighth-century European cultures. Boniface's renowned activities indeed took him from Wessex to Frisia, Germany and Rome, and connected him with the papacy, the Anglo-Saxons and the Carolingians.
